They did it wrong. This is easy, lift up plate, carry to sink, carefully flip over. Potentially no liquid spilled. If they had used a thin plastic card, however, placed the cup on the table instead of a plate, and carefully removed the card, that one is a bit more difficult to solve cleanly.
